The average lifespan for a boiler is 10 – 15 years, although many last longer. Getting a new boiler can be expensive, so it makes sense that people want them to last as long as possible. The best way to prolong the life of your boiler is to get an annual boiler service so that any faults or issues are spotted and fixed before they cause wider damage.
Signs that your boiler needs replacing
The temptation to keep your boiler until it gives up completely might be high, but there are benefits to replacing your boiler sooner than later once it reaches the 10 – 15 year mark.
Technology has rapidly evolved over the last few years, and older boilers are very inefficient and outdated compared to newer models. The following issues are signs that your boiler might need replacing:
• Your boiler has had multiple issues that need fixing
• You have trouble finding spare parts as they are no longer made
• Your heating system is slow or unreliable
• Your boiler is regularly making unusual sounds
• Your heating bills have increased
Benefits of replacing your old boiler
While it’s never fun buying a new boiler, there are benefits that come with the cost. Newer boilers are much more efficient than older models, so you should see a big drop in how much you pay to heat your home each month. New boilers are also quieter to run – many of our clients are surprised by the difference in noise when they replace their boiler. And, new boilers are typically much nicer to look at than older models, and often take up less space!
Financially, it often makes sense to install a new boiler rather than fixing an older model, as parts for boilers which are ten years or older can be hard to find. Your new boiler will also come with a manufacturer’s warranty, so you have a period of time where you won’t need to pay for any issues for a fixed period of time. Fixing an older model is more often than not just putting on a band aid – you’ll likely need more repairs and an eventual replacement anyway.
We offer a range of boilers to suit all budgets, so please get in touch to arrange a free consultation.
